IT Infrastructure Consulting for Wired and Fixed Wireless Networks

Let's Talk

Design & Consulting Services

Gigabit Internet Over Existing Copper or Coax

Upgrade MDUs, hotels, or motels to gigabit speeds without rewiring. G.hn technology uses plain old telephone wires or legacy coax to deliver up to 1 Gbps per unit—quickly, affordably, and with minimal disruption.

Average install cost:
Fiber: $1,500–$2,100/unit
G.hn: ~$254/unit

Fast. Scalable. No new wires. Old wiring works great.

Fixed Wireless Access

Do you have good WiFi coverage but slow speeds connecting to the Internet?

A WiFi network is only as good as the Internet pipe supporting it.  I can guide you on how you can backhaul bandwidth from the building across the way or from a city 150 miles away.  I have the expertise to help you move gobs of bandwidth wirelessly when placing fiber is not an option.

Do you have your own team that can do the heavy lifting? Using path analysis software and the latest Lidar, I can guide you on product and frequency selection based on your needs.

Troubleshooting & Forensics

With four decades of hands-on experience designing, installing, and repairing telecommunications systems, I specialize in diagnosing and resolving complex network failures that others can’t. My forensic services focus on uncovering root causes of degraded performance or outages in copper, fiber, and fixed wireless networks — whether due to poor design, environmental factors, improper installation, signal interference or grounding failures. I bring deep insight from the physical layer up, ensuring that even legacy infrastructure can perform to modern standards. When reliability matters, and the cause isn’t obvious, I’m the expert clients call to find — and fix — the real problem.

Pridictive WiFi Surveys - Plan Smarter, Perform Better

What Is a Predictive WiFi Site Survey?

A predictive WiFi site survey uses advanced software to simulate your wireless network before any hardware is installed. By analyzing your building layout, materials, and expected device usage, I design a network that’s optimized from day one—saving you time, money, and frustration.

Why It Matters:

  • 🔍 Accuracy Before Installation: Know exactly where to place access points (APs) for maximum coverage and minimal interference.

  • 🎯 Guided Cabling Layout: Give your cabling contractor exact drop locations for APs—no guesswork, no waste, no do-overs.

  • 🚀 Faster Deployment: Skip the trial-and-error. Get it right the first time.

  • 💰 Cost-Effective: Reduce wasted equipment and labor by planning precisely.

  • 📈 Future-Proof: Plan for growth, roaming, and IoT with scalable, intelligent design.

  • 🛠️ Fewer Support Calls: A well-designed network means fewer complaints and better performance.

Ideal For:

  • New construction or office buildouts

  • Renovations or WiFi upgrades

  • Warehouses, schools, hospitals, hotels, MDUs, and more

Why Choose Me?

I use industry-leading tools like Ekahau or Hamina to simulate RF environments and design networks that perform reliably under real-world conditions. I don’t just deliver heatmaps—I deliver clear, actionable network blueprints you can hand directly to your installers and IT teams.

Proposal Evaluation & RFP Writing Guidance

With extensive experience on both sides of telecommunications projects—as a contractor and infrastructure designer—I provide expert assistance in writing clear, technically sound Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that attract qualified vendors and ensure accurate, competitive bids. I also offer objective evaluation of vendor proposals, identifying gaps, inflated costs, and unrealistic timelines. My focus is on aligning technical requirements with project goals, safeguarding budgets, and ensuring long-term network reliability. Whether you're a municipality, property owner, or enterprise IT team, I help you make informed decisions before the first cable is pulled.

Past Performance

City of Boulder, Colorado

The city's aerial fiber cable, feeding a remote water treatment plant in the mountains west of Downtown Boulder, kept getting damaged or cut leaving the plant isolated for days at a time.  The city's IT department called on Data Structures to design and furnish a fixed wireless solution to back up the fiber.  We accomplished that with a 525 Mbps link connecting the water treatment plant back to the city's network in town.

In May of 2017, with the help of Data Structures performing the design & installation or design only, the city launched "Connect Boulder," a free public WiFi network connecting the Civic Center, Scott Carpenter Park, and the Boulder Reservoir.

Crater Lake, Oregon

Upgraded a PTP license-exempt wireless link form the Crater Lake Lodge at the top to the boat dock rentals below, a distance of 5 miles.

Death Valley, California

A WiFi challenge for sure.  One might not realize how busy it can get in the middle of the desert with lodging guests, visitors, and employees all doing their thing and all looking to connect to the Internet.  A classic photo of the egg frying on the pavement can have high priority on making its way on the Internet highway.  But we made that happen with of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint backhaul pipes and state-of-the-art outdoor WiFi radios.

Denali National Park & Glacier Bay, Alaska

There was not only a need to get WiFi to Denali lodging guests, but the employees inside the park, some having no running water to their dorms, were pleading for access to the Internet.  Fortunately, we were able to utilize the existing infrastructure of old telephone wiring and designed and installed a WiFi infrastructure using VDSL2 technology. Feedback from the rank and file: "Dude, you changed my life!"

Lodging in Florida Keys

This 240 suite resort in Tavernier was limping on an aging and poorly performing WiFi network.  A completely new network was designed and installed providing WiFi in all suites, restaurant, and outdoor areas. All buildings were connected with wireless point-to-point links.

Grand Canyon, Arizona

A new WiFi network involving nearly 20 separate buildings (lodging, restaurant, cafeteria, and general store) spread over hundreds of acres, was designed and built using fixed wireless point-to-point, VDSL2 over old copper, and WiFi for the park guests, visitors, and staff.

Lake Powell-Bullfrog Marina, Utah

In what is considered the "North Lakes" in Lake Powell, Bullfrog Marina is a very busy marina with guest lodging, private  boat and houseboat mooring and storage, boat tours, concessions, and lots of ongoing maintenance.  The marina concessioner had an aging wireless network that had become outdated and inefficient. The original wireless backhaul was replaced with state-of-the-art radios and antennas, providing much improved stability and performance. A complete WiFi network was designed and installed for not only the marina but also most of the employee housing.

Lake Quinault, Log Cabin Resort, Sol Duc Hot Springs Olympic National Park, Washington

Surveyed for microwave backhaul, and WiFi in guest lodging, and provided options to client.

Sheraton Denver Downtown-Denver, Colorado

At the time, Colorado's largest hotel, this 1236-room property consisting of a 22-story tower, an 8-story plaza, large meeting spaces, restaurants, and bars, contracted with me to upgrade the WiFi on the entire property.  This was accomplished with Ruckus state-of-the-art WiFi equipment and a new fiber optic backbone connecting the tower and plaza. When asked, "How do you like the new WiFi network?" the response was, "We love Ruckus!"
